General Information

Where is your office?

The address is 4895 Olde Towne Pkwy, Marietta, GA 30068. Our office is the first floor of the building (Suite 50), and our entrance is the door that faces the courtyard.

If using GPS, please use Google Maps.

What are your office hours?

During the school year, we meet with students Mondays through Thursdays between 2 and 9 pm, Saturdays between 10 am and 4 pm, and Sundays between 10 am and 9 pm.

During the summer, we typically meet with students Mondays through Thursdays between 10 am and 5 pm, Saturdays between 10 am and 2 pm, and Sundays between 10 am and 6 pm.

While we are happy to show off our new location and answer questions, we ask that you make an appointment for any face-to-face meetings to ensure someone is available to speak with you.

What payments do you accept?

We require a credit card to be kept on file. You can send a check with your student to each session if you prefer; otherwise, we will automatically charge the card on file for any balance on your account at the end of the week.

Process of Getting Started

When should I start preparing for the SAT or ACT?

We strongly recommend that students begin test prep only after they have completed at least half of Algebra 2/Advanced Algebra. Both exams heavily emphasize this content in the math section, and our experience has shown that students who start too early can become discouraged and overwhelmed.

Students who begin test prep in the spring of their junior year still have 4-5 testing opportunities before most early admission deadlines.

What about the PSAT?

Students do not need formal preparation for the PSAT in the 9th and 10th grades. The only students who should consider PSAT prep are students applying to magnet schools and 11th graders with the potential to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.

What about the PSAT for the National Merit Scholarship?

The selection index for National Merit Semifinalists in Georgia has been between 217 and 220 (out of 228) since 2008. This equates to a 1450+ on the PSAT.

We recommend PSAT test prep for 11th graders whose 10th grade PSAT score was at least a 1300 AND who are registered with their school to take the PSAT as an 11th grader. (Note that PSAT registration for 11th graders is not automatic and fees apply.)

What should I do first?

We strongly recommend that you start by taking a mock ACT and a mock SAT (or use a recent PSAT score). Once you know which exam is the better fit, we can work with you to create a testing plan that fits your goals.

Individual vs. Small Group Test Prep

What’s the difference between individual sessions and small group classes?

Both individual sessions and small group classes will review content and strategies; the main differences are the structure of the time commitment and the amount of personalization that’s possible.

Individual students are expected to complete 2-4 hours of homework each week outside of the session, but that practice time is built into the small group classes.

Small group classes will generally have a larger breadth of content but smaller depth, while individual sessions will lean toward less breadth and more depth on specific needs of the student.

Which one would be best for my student?

Individual sessions are best suited for students who need:

  • Schedule fexibility with tutoring sessions due to other commitments
  • Significant support in specific areas
  • Pacing that works with their natural learning curve

Small group classes are best suited for students who need:

  • A highly structured environment to ensure they stay on track
  • Consistent block of time for prep with little to no outside homework
  • A standard pace of learning
How much do students’ scores typically increase after using your services?

Score increases are highly personal and depend on a number of factors, including student participation and practice.

Mock Testing

When should I take a mock test?

You should take a mock ACT and mock SAT prior to starting test prep. This allows us to see which test is your best fit and craft a personalized plan for you. We can use your PSAT score for comparison (instead of a mock SAT) if your mock ACT was taken within 3-5 weeks of your most recent PSAT.

It is important that you take the mock tests around the same time – a large time gap could give a misleading comparison because of what you’ve learned in the meantime, especially in math.

When do you offer mock tests?

We offer mock tests most Saturdays from 9-1 and Sundays from 1-4.

During the summer, we offer mock tests most days of the week.

How do I schedule a mock test?

Submit the Mock Test Registration form here or contact us at info@mvtestprep.com with your desired mock test date and time.

What should I bring with me to a Mock Test?

For a Mock ACT: pencils, calculator, drink/snack (if desired)

For a Mock SAT: pencils, calculator, drink/snack (if desired), personal device with Bluebook app loaded, Bluebook login information, charger for your personal device (if needed)

Refreshing & Refreshers

What does “refreshing” mean/what is a “refresher” session?

We use the term “refreshers” to refer to students who have already completed 1 round of  test prep with us and are returning for additional support. A “refresher” session is a designated time period when students can drop-in for extra practice or to ask specific questions in a small group setting. These sessions will typically meet immediately following the corresponding small group class.

When do I have to pay for Refresher sessions?

Refresher sessions are always complimentary for students who have taken the corresponding small group class.

Once students have taken 5 individual ACT sessions or 6 individual SAT sessions, they are eligible to attend refresher sessions for the corresponding test for a fee of $50 per test date.
